If you are looking for peace and quiet and wide open spaces, The Parsonage in Sweet Grass County will certainly fill the bill. It is a quintessential illustration of what is meant by “Big Sky Country” with expansive views of three mountain ranges: The Beartooth, the Absarokee and Crazy Mountains
Originally, a minister’s home built by local farmers adjacent to a church in the tiny town of Rapalje, this 1917’s vintage house was moved to this 5000 acre sheep and cattle ranch several years ago. The setting overlooks Sweet Grass Creek. The only other house on this large ranch is the main ranch house about ½ mile away.
The charming 2-story 4 bedroom, 2 bath has been lovingly restored and is still in the process of being furnished and photos will be updated
This is not a dude ranch but a fully operational working ranch homesteaded in the 1880’s by Norwegian emigrants. Although guests will not participate in the regular ranch activities, sheep and cows are pastured just south of the house, and depending on the time of the year, you’ll see the owners moving animals and going about their farming and ranching chores. The Creek is great for cooling off and rafting. The ranch is a perfect place to bicycle as there is so little traffic on the gravel road. The nearby mountains offer a plethora of hiking trails.
Yellowstone Park is 90 miles away making day trips possible. The charming town of Big Timber, 12 miles from the ranch, has an old west charm and offers some interesting shops and an excellent restaurant. The nearest fishing access on the Yellowstone River is only 7 miles away and there are a number of excellent fishing guides in the area. Horseback rides and pack trips can be arranged with licensed outfitters.
Airports in Bozeman, 75 miles to the west, and Billings, 75 miles to the east offer many flights and rental cars services.
